|Founded by internationally known conductor Robert De Cormier, the remarkable a cappella ensemble, Counterpoint, has attracted the attention of National Public Radio, as well as Vermont Public Radio, which broadcast “Christmas in Vermont with Counterpoint” to more than 100 stations nationwide for the past four (4) years. The group has recorded six (6) CDs with Albany Records — Counterpoint Sings Noel; When the Rabbi Danced (Yiddish songs from the shtetls of Eastern Europe to the concentration camp of Terezin, Czechoslovakia and the Resistance); Misa Criolla (music from the folk tradition of Latin America) and Shalom (folk songs and dances of a new nation); Let Me Fly (Music of struggle, solace and survival in black America); and Christmas in Vermont with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet.
After a successful debut in a series of concerts in August 2000, the twelve-member professional ensemble has enjoyed increasing success over a short seven-year period, presenting concerts throughout Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Montreal. Beginning in the 2007-2008 Season, tours are planned throughout the United States.
Counterpoint is dedicated to promoting choral chamber music and giving the public the opportunity to hear rarely performed works, unique arrangements and the work of contemporary composers.
